July 2025 PHD Report from Life In Pieces

July was a busy month. I was away from home for over a week helping Grad Girl move.  So there's not a lot of progress to report for the July PHD report over at Ms. P Designs.

There are no updates to my PHD log.  No finishes, but no new starts either.  I can at least celebrate that!  There has been progress on some other projects this month.

There's been a bit of progress on the Rose Throw counted cross stitch project.  I just didn't feel like doing much handwork this month.  Does it look like a ...

To Do List for 7/29/2025 from Life In Pieces

I'm a day late posting this week's to do list. We are still working with uncertain scheduling since Grad Girl and Queenie moved home.  Grad Girl left yesterday morning for Houston. She has two job interviews this week.  Which means I'm on kitty babysitting duty, that includes at least 30 minutes to an hour of outside time in the morning.  She's used to having access to a third floor balcony to observe life from.  We have a fenced backyard, but Queenie is far from an outside cat and we're not sure she'd stay in ...

To Do List for 07/22/2025 from Life In Pieces

It's been two weeks since my last to do list post.  Between being way to busy packing and moving Grad Girl, plus the lack of Internet, putting a list together last week just didn't happen. So here's the progress on my last to do list.

1. Guild BOM: Finish August blocks - progress

3.  Wild and Goosey: Make purple, sash red blocks ✔

2.  Kate's Choice: Continue quilting blocks - no progress

June 2025 PHD Report from Life In Pieces

Hard to believe we are half way through 2025.  Now that it's July it's time to take another look at my progress with the June PHD report over at Ms. P Designs

I've not done so well on the finishing up front, but I have been making steady progress on several other projects.

While cleaning up the sewing room, I found a very old counted cross stitch throw started back in college.  It's been added to my traveling handwork projects.  Not a lot of progress on this, but at least there's been some. I'd ...

To Do List for the Week of 07/01/2025 from Life In Pieces

The year is half over.  I'm always amazed at how quickly we get to this point.  We were in Crown Center in Kansas City last week for a conference. The Hallmark store there was setting up for this year's ornament display.  Christmas will be here before most of us are ready I'm sure.

Let's not dwell on time passing, not much we can do on that front. I didn't have time to write up a post last week. Which works out as I didn't have time to stitch much last week.  So I had ...

To Do List for the Week of 06/17/2025 from Life In Pieces

Do you ever look at your calendar and realize that you don't really have that much time to get ready for something?  Grad Girl will be moving home next month.  She's been applying for jobs and has had one video interview so far.  With the current job market, she's probably going to be here for at least a month, likely 2 to 3 before she finds a full time chemist job.  I've been using her old closet as storage for some of my quilting supplies, I'm going to have to find someplace else because she ...

Not Much on the Design Wall from Life In Pieces

It was another wet weekend here. The kind that's perfect for just hanging out in the sewing room.  Sewing time was spent working on the 2025 Guild BOM blocks for tomorrow's meeting.  I'm making good progress and if I can work in a good afternoon of sewing, I'll have them done.  Other than those blocks, there's not a lot going on in the sewing room.  I did finish stitching all the flying geese for clue 7 of Bonnie Hunter's Old Town mystery.

I've been stitching a few flying geese with every BOM block ...

To Do List for the Week of 06/10/2025 from Life In Pieces

Laundry and household chores are my prime focus this week after not doing much of either last week.  Shirking my housekeeping duties last week let me take advantage of the return of the sewing mojo.  That shows up clearly in the progress with last week's to do list.

To Do List for 06/03/2025

1.  2025 Guild BOM: Finish cutting fabrics for blocks - progress
2.  Glowing Hearts: Finish assembling quilt top ✔
3.  Kate's Choice: Continue quilting blocks - no progress
4.  Betty: Find backing, figure out assembly
5.  Old Town: Work on block units at Late Night Sew ...

May 2025 PHD Report from Life In Pieces

May went fast!  It didn't help that at about the halfway mark my sewing mojo disappeared.  So not as much progress as I would have liked for the month. But there is still a bit to report for the May PHD report over at Ms. P Designs.

Finally a finish shows up on the PHD report, along with a new unplanned project. The finish is a project started this year, so there is still no progress on the UFO column.

The 2025 SAHRR, aka Stars in a Derecho Sky, (Quilting Gail) was my finish for May.  Trudy, who has ...

To Do List for the Week of 06/03/2025 from Life In Pieces

We were in Texas all last week to attend Grad Girl's thesis defense and then just hang out with her afterwards for a bit of a celebration. Poor girl hasn't had a real vacation in over a year.  The presentation of her work was public, so we were able to attend that. Afterwards we waited in the hallway while she took questions from her committee.

It was a good week, other than the flat tire issues. We picked up a large bolt somewhere on Sunday/Monday. By Monday night we were running with the spare (thank goodness Grad ...

April 2025 PHD Report from Life In Pieces

April seemed to move in slow motion till the middle of the month, but the last couple of weeks went fast. So I'm not ready for it to be May.  But since it is, it's time to take a look at where I'm at with my quest for a PHD and link up with Ms P Designs for the April PHD report.  On first glance it's a bit sad, there has been no change in my PHD report since January.

The only change all year has been a new start which was planned for.  No finishes ...

To Do List for the Week of 04/08/2025 from Life In Pieces

I saw a meme on Instagram stating that someone should pour out Mother Nature's beer while she's doing all 4 seasons in 24 hours cause she's drunk enough.  I'm sure there are a lot in the US that agree with that sentiment.  Hopefully we'll actually see some spring weather this week (without tornadoes  and floods would be nice).

It was a good week to hang out in the sewing room and work on last week's to do list.

To Do List for 04/01/2025

March 2025 PHD report from Life In Pieces

We are a few days into April so it's time to look back at what got done last month and post a March PHD report and join the linky party over at Ms P Designs USA.  I appreciate these monthly look backs, especially when I have no finishes.  It helps me remember that I did actually do stuff even though there are no updates to my PHD tracking sheet.

No new starts either, so I'm at least not adding to my UFO list yet. There was some good progress on several projects this month.

An oldie, but goodie ...

To Do List for the Week of 04/01/2025 from Life In Pieces

March was a pretty productive month, fingers crossed April is as well.  I did pretty well with my last to do list for March.

To Do List for 03/25/2025

1.  2025 Guild BOM: Finish May blocks ✔

2.  2025 SAHRR: Trim backing - progress

3.  On Ringo Lake: Make 2 blocks, start quilt assembly

4.  Wild and Goosey: Making blue blocks

5.  Summer Scrap Quilt:  Leaders and enders

Four out of five is definitely not a bad week.  Progress has been slow, but steady.  I'm hoping for more of the same for this week's to do list.

To Do List for the Week of 03/25/2025 from Life In Pieces

This year seems to be moving ahead at light speed, when usually the first few months of the year usually seem to go more slowly. This is the last to do list for March.  I'm not ready for April. It's coming regardless, so no point in bemoaning. At least I did pretty well at getting last week's to do list checked off.

To Do List for 03/18/2025

1.  2025 SAHRR: Finish borders ✔
2.  Guild BOM: Start May blocks ✔
3.  Wild and Goosey: Continue making blue blocks ✔

To Do List for the Week of 03/18/2025 from Life In Pieces

Even with lots of stitching time, I'm finding it hard to get to every item on my to do list.  Mostly because I still have a couple of projects with deadlines, the SAHRR and the guild BOM. I probably should have stuck to a shorter list for last week.

To Do List for 3/11/2025

1.  2025 Guild BOM: Finish April Blocks ✔

2.  SAHRR: Start on finial borders

3.  Chocolate Marshmallows: Make backing - no progress

4.  On Ringo Lake: Cut pieces for last block - no progress

5.  Wild and Goosey: Continue making blue blocks ✔

6.  Summer Scrap Quilt ...

To Do List for the Week of 03/11/2025 from Life In Pieces

There was a good bit of sewing to deadlines this last week.  I try hard to avoid that as my stitching time is supposed to be relaxing and meditative.  Of course it was my own fault, I had plenty of time to work on my projects, I just got sidelined with the new and shiny.  At any rate, it all paid off and last week's to do list has lots of check marks.

To Do List for 3/04/2025

1. Marble Mystery: Finish quilt assembly ✔
2. 2025 Guild BOM: Start April blocks ✔
3. 2025 SAHRR: Finish 6th border ...

February 2025 PHD Report from Life In Pieces

No surprise that February went fast.  I just wasn't ready for how fast it went.  Now that we've moved into March, it's time to post a February PHD report and join the linky party over at P Designs USA.

There's been no change in my PHD tracking sheet.

No finishes, but no new starts either.  So not good, but not bad either.  Though I've not had any finishes, there has been progress on several projects.

To get finishes, backings are needed. I didn't get very far with my plan to move Chocolate Marshmallows (Seabreeze ...

To Do List for the Week of 02/25/2025 from Life In Pieces

The drive home from Texas was mostly uneventful.  But it's a long time to be in the car, it's a 9 hour drive.  The worst part was the heavy fog from College Station to Waco, thankfully there wasn't much traffic. But I was pretty tired when I pulled into the driveway. I ended up in bed a good hour before my normal bedtime last night, but feel much better this morning.

I got in several solid days of stitching time last week, but because I was so behind on my priority projects (projects with deadlines), I didn ...
